Adoptable

Any animals currently residing in the home with potential adopters must be up to date on vaccines and altered (spayed/neutered).  We will need you to provide the name and number of your current vet so we can do a vet reference check.

Not all of our adoptable animals require a fence.  Please reference individual bios to see if the particular animal you are interested in does have a fence requirement.

Must own home or have written permission from landlord to have a dog.

We require three personal references that are not related to you.

FHR will do a home visit to see where the dog will sleep, play, be exercised.

Approved adopters will be able to meet the dog (s) with an appointment.

Thank you for considering adopting a homeless pet!  We are committed in doing our part to place the pets in our care in the best homes possible. The adoption of any pet is a lifetime commitment and needs to be taken seriously.

Some of our pets have come from abuse situations, some are strays, and some were surrendered by their owners.  All of the pets that come to us were in danger of being euthanized at the shelter that was housing them. People are under the misconception that because the dog that they bring to a shelter is a purebred it will find a home. Nothing is further from the truth. All shelters and Humane Societies are overwhelmed because there is simply not enough space. Every year in the United States, 15,000,000-17,000,000 healthy animals are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them.
This is the reason that we promote spay/neuter and require that all adopted pets that are old enough be altered prior to adoption.

Please remember that we are not a shelter. We are a home-based rescue and sanctuary.  All of our animals live in our home with us.  Please do not ask to come see the animals prior to filling out an application. Once your application has been reviewed, we will contact you to arrange a visit with the pet. If you have specific questions about a particular pet, please contact us via email or text.

As you complete your application, you may think that some of the questions are intrusive or silly. Just as you are applying for a pet based on a picture and a short biography, we are evaluating you on short narrative of information supplied. We do our best to match families up with their new best friend. While your home may be a great home for a pet, it might not be the home for a particular pet. We may suggest a different pet, or if you are willing, we can keep your name on file and notify you when one arrives that has the qualities and personality that you want. There is no shortage of homeless pets and the perfect one will come along sooner or later. Many of the popular pets receive several applications, and we do our best to insure that they are placed into a home that is a perfect fit and one where they will be able to live out all of their days.

Thank you again for you interest in saving one of the less fortunate. Good luck and you are now on your way to finding your new best friend.
